【Activity】2024 Experiential Understanding and Applied Science Education Camp for High School Students - College of Science - A Journey into the Wonderful World of Science
The College of Science at Pingtung University held a 2-day “Experiential Understanding and Applied Science Education Camp for High School Students” on July 4-5, 2024 (Thursday and Friday). Ms. Tzu-Fang Hsu, Associate Dean of the College of Science, introduced the College of Science, professors and university students from various departments led high school students to open up the knowledge of science, to find out the wonderful world of science!
Courses include:
- Department of Science Communication, Mr. Ming-zhao, Lin - Hands-on science, explore the amazing world of sound, understand the mystery of sound transmission and resonance phenomenon, from ordinary speakers to labyrinth speakers. Through experiments and interactions, teachers and students learned to explore the amazing effects of sound
- Department of Applied Physics, Ms. Chun-mei, Yang - Understanding Optoelectronics, Applications and Practical Use, an overview of the basic and working principles of optoelectronics, in-depth study of optical components (optical components, optical components, optical components), the basic and working principles of optoelectronics, the basic and working principles of optoelectronics, in-depth study of optical components (optical components). The basic principles of optoelectronic components, in-depth discussion of optical components (e.g., LEDs) and electronic components (e.g., solar cells), and the application of low-power motors, fans, and light-emitting diodes through hands-on practice to understand the overall principles
- Department of Physical Education, Mr. Yo, Chen - Muscle Activation vs Fitness Exercise, introduces the basic concepts of physical education and its relationship with coffee, and discusses how to link coffee with the relevant departments of the Faculty of Science. The publicity of sports equipment and fitness field safety training, through the teacher demonstration, guiding students to do warm-up exercises and experience various sports equipment
- Department of Applied Chemistry, Ms. Wen-huei, Chang– See through Bees, Chemistry Magic Laboratory, to study the various knowledge of honeybees, including types and characteristics (such as female bees, worker bees, and the distinction) and how to artificially extract the queen's milk. Students performed bee dissections in the field, using a small microscope with a cell phone, bee samples and various chemicals (e.g. zinc tablets, salicylic acid, etc.) to see the structure of a bee, the details of circuit boards, the crystalline form of salicylic acid, and the process of acid-alkali neutralization reactions.
Students were very interested in hands-on learning activities and devoted themselves to each practical activity, successfully completing a variety of practical activities, not only learning theoretical knowledge, but also effectively applying this knowledge to practical operations, realizing the organic combination of theory and practice. During the process, students improved their communication skills and collaboration abilities through cooperation and discussion with their peers, as well as listening to and integrating the opinions of others during the interaction.
The camp also allows college students to share what they had learned from classes. The students were deeply touched by the moment when the simultaneously rotating fan and the light-emitting diode were applied to the Breadboard, this means a lot to the college students who were helping in the program. The development of science is rooted in human needs and ideals. By organizing the camp, high school students were able to get to know more about the College of Science at National Pingtung University, and at the same time, understand that science is not merely a subject, but also an extension of human intelligence and emotions. Every scientific innovation reflects our desire to improve the quality of life, solve problems, and realize our dreams. The Academy will continue to pursue the goal of science education, and will embrace the facets of teaching, research, service, and outreach in order to bring about positive enlightenment.
