[Scholarship Application Open] 2024 College of Science Higher Education Deep Cultivation Program Student Scholarships

 

  • Project Basis: This program is conducted in accordance with the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Deep Cultivation Program for the year 2024.
  • Purpose and Description: The program aims to encourage students to engage in self-directed learning and actively participate in academic competitions, certification exams, academic conferences, journal submissions, internships, and research projects. This initiative seeks to enhance students' professional skills, innovative capabilities, and employment competitiveness by subsidizing the relevant expenses associated with these activities.
  • Scope of Subsidy: Applications are open for activities taking place within the year 2024 (from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024). Activities outside this timeframe will not be considered.
  • Funding Source: The funding for this program comes from the business expenses allocated under the College’s Higher Education Deep Cultivation Program for the year 2024. If the funds are insufficient, adjustments may be made based on the College’s financial situation, which may include reducing or eliminating the subsidy.
  • Types of Subsidies and Application Method:

 A、Academic Competitions  :  

I. Eligibility:-Students currently enrolled in day-time undergraduate and master’s programs at the university.

II. Subsidy Items:Registration fees, materials costs, and travel expenses (transportation and accommodation).

III. Subsidy Conditions:The competition must be a professional event related to the student’s major, conducted domestically, and in the name of the university or the student’s name (excluding invention exhibitions, innovation and entrepreneurship, academic papers, conference papers, sports, and social competitions). Competitions that are merely exhibitions without awards are not eligible. The subsidy can only be applied for after the competition has ended.

IV. Subsidy Procedure:

i. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted. Applications should be submitted after the competition concludes.

ii. Each case is reimbursed based on actual expenses with appropriate receipts.

iii. Each student is limited to three subsidized cases per year. Different stages of the same competition (e.g., preliminary and final rounds) are considered a single case.

iv. Students who have already received other internal or external funding for the same competition are not eligible for this subsidy and must return any previously received funding.

V. Required Documents:

i. Completed application form.

ii. Copy of the approved student leave form.

 1. The leave reason section must state the full name of the academic competition.

 2. The form must be checked for “Assigned to execute a task, with official nature” and “Registered as official leave, requiring reimbursement.” Unchecked forms will not be processed.

 3. All academic competition participation requires a leave request, regardless of whether it falls during class time or non-class time (e.g., free periods, weekends, national holidays, or vacation periods).

iii. Copy of the competition rules, guidelines, or event schedule.

iv. Documentation proving representation of the university in the competition.

v. Copies or multimedia files of competition works or results.

iv. Proof of participation and awards or a report on the competition experience.

iiv. Original receipts for reimbursement:

 1. Registration fees.

 2. Materials costs (up to NT$3,000 per person). Note that shipping costs for materials are not reimbursable.

 3. Travel expenses: transportation receipts (up to NT$3,200 per person), and accommodation receipts (up to NT$1,000 per person per night, with the location being at least 60 kilometers away from the university). Travel expenses must adhere to the “National Pingtung University Student Domestic Travel Expense Standard Table.” Expenses not meeting these standards will not be processed.

 4. Proof of the distance between the university and the event location being more than 60 kilometers. Google Maps route planning pages showing the names, addresses, and distance in kilometers are acceptable.

IV. Application Submission:

i. Department of Science Communication (including the Science Communication and Education Master’s Program): Science Communication Department Office (5th Floor, Ke Yi Hall, Pingtung Campus).

ii. Department of Applied Chemistry (including the Master’s Program): Applied Chemistry Department Office (3rd Floor, Science Building, Pingtung Campus).

iii. Department of Applied Mathematics (including the Master’s Program): Applied Mathematics Department Office (4th Floor, Wuyou Building, Minsheng Campus).

iv. Department of Physical Education (including the Master’s Program): Physical Education Department Office (3rd Floor, Li Ai Building, Pingtung Campus).

v. Department of Applied Physics (including the Optoelectronics and Materials Master’s Program), International Master’s Program in Applied Science, and Semiconductor Materials Science Master’s Program: College of Science Office (2nd Floor, Jing-Ye Building, Pingtung Campus).

 B、Certification Exams (including Qualification Certificates and Language Proficiency Tests)  :  

I. Eligibility: Students currently enrolled in undergraduate or master's programs in the College of Science.

II. Subsidy Items: Registration fees.

III. Subsidy Conditions:

i. The certification must be listed in the professional certification reward standards table of the student's department or in the institution's professional certification reward standards table. For special certifications not listed, professional recognition must be obtained from the department’s faculty.

ii. Language proficiency tests must be from categories listed in the English proficiency standards table of the student’s department or program.

IV. Subsidy Procedure:

i. This subsidy operates on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget is exhausted. Applications should be submitted after receiving the exam results.

ii. For students who obtain a professional certification or pass the English proficiency standards of their department or program, the full registration fee will be subsidized up to NT$2,000 per case. If the fee is less than NT$2,000, the actual registration fee will be reimbursed. Conversely, if the certification is not obtained or the English proficiency standards are not met, 50% of the registration fee will be subsidized up to NT$1,000 per case. If the fee is less than NT$1,000, the actual registration fee will be reimbursed.

iii. Each student may receive subsidies for up to 3 certifications or exams per year. Applications for the same certification or proficiency test level can only be submitted once per year.

iv. Students who have received other internal or external funding for the same certification or exam are not eligible to apply for this subsidy. Those who violate this rule must return the subsidy received.

V. Required Documents for Application:

i. Completed application form (original).

ii. Copy of the student ID (front and back).

iii. For those who obtained a professional certification or passed the English proficiency test, provide a copy of the transcript or certificate. For those who did not obtain the certification or pass the test, provide the original test attendance certificate or a copy of the transcript from the organizing body.

iv. Original receipts for reimbursement:Registration fee receipt, made out to the institution (National Pingtung University) with the tax ID number (91004005).

IV. Application Submission:

i. Department of Science Communication (including the Science Communication and Education Master’s Program): Science Communication Department Office (5th Floor, Ke Yi Hall, Pingtung Campus).

ii. Department of Applied Chemistry (including the Master’s Program): Applied Chemistry Department Office (3rd Floor, Science Building, Pingtung Campus).

iii. Department of Applied Mathematics (including the Master’s Program): Applied Mathematics Department Office (4th Floor, Wuyou Building, Minsheng Campus).

iv. Department of Physical Education (including the Master’s Program): Physical Education Department Office (3rd Floor, Li Ai Building, Pingtung Campus).

v. Department of Applied Physics (including the Optoelectronics and Materials Master’s Program), International Master’s Program in Applied Science, and Semiconductor Materials Science Master’s Program: College of Science Office (2nd Floor, Jing-Ye Building, Pingtung Campus).

 C、Domestic Academic Conferences : 

I. Eligibility:Students currently enrolled in undergraduate or master's programs in the College of Science.

II. Subsidy Items:Registration fees and travel expenses (transportation and accommodation).

III. Subsidy Conditions:The subsidy applies to students participating in domestic academic conferences related to their department’s specialty, and who present their research either orally or as a poster. The application must be submitted after the conference concludes.

IV. Subsidy Procedure:

i. The subsidy operates on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget is exhausted. Please submit the application after the conference ends.

ii. Each individual can receive up to NT$10,000 in total for registration fees and travel expenses (including transportation and accommodation) for a single conference. If the total expenses are less than NT$10,000, the actual expenses will be reimbursed.

iii. Each student may apply for up to 3 conferences per year.

iv. Students who have received other funding for the same conference are not eligible for this subsidy. If this rule is violated, the previously received subsidy must be returned.

V. Required Documents for Application:

i. Completed application form (original).

ii. Copy of the approved student leave of absence form:

 1. The reason for leave must specify the full name of the academic conference.

 2. The box marked "Assigned to execute tasks with official duties" and "Recorded as official leave, requires expense reimbursement" must be checked. Applications will not be processed if these boxes are not checked, as the expenses cannot be reimbursed.

 3. A leave of absence must be applied for regardless of whether the conference is held during class time or outside of class time (e.g., free periods, weekends, national holidays, or summer/winter breaks).

iii. Copy of the conference agenda, indicating the date and session of the oral or poster presentation.

iv. Copy of the formal invitation letter, proof of paper acceptance (e.g., letter, email), and presentation certificate.

v. Abstract of the paper, and a copy of the oral presentation slides or poster presentation.

iv. Original receipts for reimbursement:

 1. Registration fee receipt, made out to the institution (National Pingtung University) with the tax ID number (91004005).

 2. Travel expenses receipts (transportation up to NT$3,200, actual expenses reimbursed), accommodation receipts (up to NT$1,000 per night, only for locations more than 60 kilometers from the institution). This follows the "National Pingtung University Student Domestic Travel Expense Standard" regulations. Applications not meeting these regulations will not be processed.

 3. Proof of the distance from the institution to the conference location being over 60 kilometers. This can include a Google Maps route planning page showing the names of the locations, addresses, and distance in kilometers.

IV. Application Submission:

 D、Domestic/International Journal Publications

I. Eligibility: Students currently enrolled in undergraduate or master’s programs in the College of Science.

II. Subsidy Items: Publication fees (including submission and revision costs).

III. Subsidy Conditions:

i. The paper must be published with the affiliation listed as National Pingtung University.

ii. Each paper is eligible for subsidy for one student only. If the paper has multiple authors from the university, the student listed as the first author will be the recipient of the subsidy, who will then coordinate the distribution of the subsidy among co-authors.

iii. The paper must be indexed in the Scopus database. Scopus

IV. Subsidy Procedure:

i. The subsidy operates on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget is exhausted.

ii. The subsidy for domestic journal publications is up to NT$10,000 per paper. If the actual cost is less than NT$10,000, the actual expenses will be reimbursed.

iii. The subsidy for international journal publications is up to NT$20,000 per paper. If the actual cost is less than NT$20,000, the actual expenses will be reimbursed.

iv. Each student can apply for up to 3 papers per year.

v. Students who have received other funding for the same publication are not eligible for this subsidy. If this rule is violated, the previously received subsidy must be returned.

V. Required Documents for Application:

i. Completed application form (original).

ii. Copy of the student ID card (both sides).

iii. Journal name and related information.

iv. Copy of the published paper and the original manuscript for revisions.

v. Original receipts for reimbursement:

   1. Receipts for publication-related expenses. If paid in foreign currency, please include the currency exchange receipt or the exchange rate page from the previous day’s Taiwan bank foreign exchange rate bulletin. For online payments, include a copy of the credit card statement.

IV. Application Submission:

 E、Undergraduate Research Pilot Program : [Application Closed as of September 6, 2024]

I. Eligibility:Students enrolled in the College of Science, undergraduate program (second-year or above) in the 113 academic year (excluding Mainland Chinese students), who will remain enrolled in the undergraduate program in the 114 academic year.

II. Subsidy Items:Research learning grants (for part-time assistant roles related to thesis/research guidance).

III. Subsidy Conditions:

i. The student must have received commitment from a supervising professor for research guidance and must engage in the relevant research project.

ii. The student must apply for the National Science Council's 114 academic year grant or undergraduate research projects. If not applied, any previously received subsidy must be returned.

iii. The student must provide monthly progress reports during the research period and submit a thesis or research report upon completion.

IV. Subsidy Procedure:

i. The subsidy is application-based. Supervising professors must submit applications through the online form.

ii. Each full-time faculty member can submit applications for up to 2 students per year. Each student is eligible for a subsidy for 1 research project per year.

iii. The subsidy is capped at NT$6,000 per month for 2 months per project. The College may adjust the distribution based on the actual number of applications, research plan details, and available funding from the Ministry of Education.

iv. Students receiving the "113 Academic Year Teacher Training Scholarship" from the Teacher Training Center must choose between this subsidy and the Ministry of Education’s funding, as they cannot receive both. However, subsidies for low-income students are exempt from this restriction.《113學年度師資培育獎學金

  • Application Process:

i. Supervisors must assist students in submitting applications via the online form between August 21, 2024, and September 6, 2024, by 12:00 noon.

ii. After review by the College, employment notifications will be sent via email to the supervising professor and the student.

iii. Students must complete employment procedures at the designated office according to the information provided in the employment notification.

V. Required Documents:

i. Application form (submitted online). 

ii. Electronic copies of the ID card (front and back), student ID (front and back), and bank account page (upload to a cloud service and submit the link in the online form).

iii. Part-time assistant employment form (to be printed by the office when the student completes the employment procedures).

iv. Thesis/research learning guidance implementation plan (to be printed by the office when the student completes the employment procedures).

v. Relationship consent form (to be printed by the office when the student completes the employment procedures).

iv. Reimbursement form:

 1. Research progress (to be submitted monthly during the research period when claiming the grant; electronic file will be provided in the employment notification email).

 2. Thesis or research project report (to be submitted upon completion).

 3. Thesis/research learning plan evaluation (to be submitted upon completion).

 4. National Science Council’s 114 Academic Year Undergraduate Research Project comprehensive data form and research project summary form (to be submitted after applying for the National Science Council’s grant).

IV. Application Submission:College of Science Office (2nd Floor, Jing-Ye Building, Pingtung Campus).

  • Before applying for the scholarship, check if the recipient’s payment information is complete in the accounting procurement system by entering the ID number. If no data is found, complete the recipient’s basic information registration with the General Affairs Office’s cashier unit. Applications will not be processed without completed registration.
  • Funding disbursement and reimbursement procedures must comply with the university's accounting regulations and relevant funding rules from the Ministry of Education and the university.
  • According to the "Guidelines for the Use of Higher Education Deep Cultivation Program Funds" Article 14 and the end-of-year accounting closing schedule, complete the subsidy application process by November 29, 2024. Claims for expenses incurred in December 2024 must be submitted within 3 days after completion.
  • Any matters not covered by these guidelines will be handled according to the announcements by the College.
