The National Science and Technology Council is accepting applications for the 2025 "Doctoral Research Scholarship Pilot Program" from December 1st to January 10th, 2024. (Updated on December 3rd)

Applications for the "Doctoral Research Scholarship Pilot Program" in 2025 are being accepted by the National Science and Technology Council from December 1st, 2024, until January 10th, 2025. (Updated on December 3rd)

If there is any discrepancy between the Chinese version and the English version of the description, the Chinese version shall prevail. 

  1. Purpose The program awards outstanding first year Ph.D. students who have demonstrated their potential for significant research contributions and supports them to pursue full-time doctoral degree.
  2. First-year Ph.D. students enrolled in the first semester of their current year (including registrations in February and September).
    The following individuals are not eligible to receive this fellowship
  • Those who are engaged in full-time paid employment in public or private sectors or who apply for admission as part-time students possessing responsibilities related to employment.
  • Students with statuses from Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland China.
  • Those who have applied for leave of absence and retained their admission eligibility or have not completed registration after admission.
  • Those who are concurrently in receipt of scholarship or subsidy offered by the ROC government.
  1. Maximum Number of Award and Amount and Duration:There are 400 award spots available annually. Each fellowship recipient will be granted a monthly stipend of NT$40,000 for a period of up to 3 years, starting from the first year of the Ph.D. program. Stipend for those who graduate less than three years shall last until the month of graduation. The entire stipend is offered by NSTC.
  2. Submission Period and Procedure:
  • Acceptance of applications for the online system is available from Tuesday, December 1st, 2024, until January 10th, 2025. Within the acceptance window, applicants must submit their online applications and application materials via the NSTC website.
  • The review results are expected to be announced on Friday, January 24, 2025; however, this date may be changed if needed.
  • Subsidies are distributed twice per academic year. The awardee must register as first-year students in doctoral programs at public or private universities in Taiwan that have approved doctoral program quotas in February or September. After registration, the university will compile an awards list and submit applications for NSTC scholarships.
